2016 began with a word: Avaunt. To advance / elevate / move forward. Shakespeare liked to use it as an interjection—"Get thee gone" if you will. (Which seems mildly appropriate in the context of my year.) But Kurt Vonnegut says it best, “I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.”Read More
The only way to beat a creative slump is to create. Try things. Fail things. And make make make.Read More
It truly is my *favorite* thing when the people I photograph become my friends. You might remember Chris and Sé from this session earlier this year. A lot of life has happened since then—Chris completed his masters program, Sé changed careers, and the two of them started a lifestyle blog together. Big changes—intentional changes—to live the life they want.Read More
It was 6 days of endless walking and fashioning and cheap (uhmazing) pizza and FREAKING HOT SUBWAYS.Read More
Trying to be more intentional about creating for myself lately. And creating unapologetically. These images are different from my 'usual'. Darker, more sultry, warmer. But by stepping out of my comfort zone, I was able to make something uniquely beautiful. Thank you for stepping in front of my camera, Jalyn!

I don’t ever want to over-romanticize
what it’s like to photograph a person.
But to step into their humanness.
To hold the weight of their story.
To show them their beauty. Their strength.
Their worth—there’s nothing like it.
I'm a sucker for the new year. Something about one year--an entire trip around the sun--coming to a close fills me with a sense of accomplishment. I finished something. And in the midst, grew into someone much wiser, much stronger than the year before. Becoming is a slow process. It is a transition, not a countdown to midnight. The funny thing is that, sometimes we need the sudden switch from 11:59 to 12:00 to notice that there was a process at all. To see that all this time we've been stretching and shifting and growing into something more.Read More

These last few weeks have flown by. My days have been filled to the brim with work, photos, design, more work, coffee shops, travel, and more work. Suddenly it's mid-August and my list of things to share with you is far too long. So in an attempt to update you on all the magic that has just been sitting on my desktop, I present you with this. 2014 was a good year. I launched my new website, traveled to Florida and California and the North Shore, went to my first and last high school dance (PROM), graduated, fell in love (with Urban Bean - HAH FOOLED YA), photographed four weddings of my own, second shot two, met several wonderful people (Diana and Bethany and Kadi and Elyse), contributed to Leaking Hearts magazine's first issue, entered adulthood (aka EIGHTEEN), attended five killer concerts, worked at a local bakery (and got a head start on the freshman fifteen), started life at college, built new friendships and cultivated old ones, and got my nose pierced.Read More

Wow. 2013 was all sorts of wonderful. I started the year as any other - a few resolutions and some fireworks. But it wasn't until June that I felt God calling me to pursue photography 100%. It's amazing to look back at everything he has provided me on this journey. I traveled to California, Chicago, Idaho, and Seattle, met new people (Lillian & Bethany!!), and had the glorious opportunity of interning with Janelle Elise Photography! I shot more seniors than I can count on my two hands, and had my own senior portraits done (!!). 2013 was wild. The biggest of thank yous to all that were a part of it! Here's to 2014, more photos, and new adventures.Read More
