Best of 2016

Best of 2016

2016 began with a word: Avaunt. To advance / elevate / move forward. Shakespeare liked to use it as an interjection—"Get thee gone" if you will. (Which seems mildly appropriate in the context of my year.) But Kurt Vonnegut says it best, “I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.”

Milan Highlights

Milan Highlights

Milan landed at a strange place in our trip. Just as Chelsea started feeling better, I picked up her head cold. We also happened to book our Airbnb on the loudest street in the city. And nostalgia for home started slowly creeping in. It was, as Chelsea had anticipated, our 'slump week.'

On the Outskirts

I wrote this shortly after returning from Nepal:

I'm trying to
hold onto the pieces
of Nepal
that changed me.

And I'm trying to
be present
in this life I'm living
in the air I'm breathing

Right Now.

But if I learned anything
it's that
We are strong &
We were meant to grieve &
Life is best lived in the in betweens &

You shouldn't wear Toms in a wheat field.

This was a special day. With beautiful people.

Best of 2015

I'm a sucker for the new year. Something about one year--an entire trip around the sun--coming to a close fills me with a sense of accomplishment. I finished something. And in the midst, grew into someone much wiser, much stronger than the year before. Becoming is a slow process. It is a transition, not a countdown to midnight. The funny thing is that, sometimes we need the sudden switch from 11:59 to 12:00 to notice that there was a process at all. To see that all this time we've been stretching and shifting and growing into something more.

(More to be hitting the blog very soon!)

Best of 2013

Best of 2013

Wow. 2013 was all sorts of wonderful. I started the year as any other - a few resolutions and some fireworks. But it wasn't until June that I felt God calling me to pursue photography 100%. It's amazing to look back at everything he has provided me on this journey. I traveled to California, Chicago, Idaho, and Seattle, met new people (Lillian & Bethany!!), and had the glorious opportunity of interning with Janelle Elise Photography! I shot more seniors than I can count on my two hands, and had my own senior portraits done (!!). 2013 was wild. The biggest of thank yous to all that were a part of it! Here's to 2014, more photos, and new adventures.
