Growing old is a strange phenomenon. I mean, truly, how can you measure a life in years? What significance—what weight—does a number hold? Are we not beings who are constantly becoming? (I've said this phrase a lot lately. But I can't take credit. This guy coined it. You rock, Steve.)Read More
MPLS/STP Clothing Co., a local business that makes Minnesota-inspired apparel, is fueled by the desire to build community and share MN pride. It's a company about real, Minnesotan people. And so when they came to me for social content, I knew it meant less shooting product and more telling stories.Read More
I'm a sucker for the new year. Something about one year--an entire trip around the sun--coming to a close fills me with a sense of accomplishment. I finished something. And in the midst, grew into someone much wiser, much stronger than the year before. Becoming is a slow process. It is a transition, not a countdown to midnight. The funny thing is that, sometimes we need the sudden switch from 11:59 to 12:00 to notice that there was a process at all. To see that all this time we've been stretching and shifting and growing into something more.Read More
This is what I know: We have too much purpose, too much breath, to live a life that is not good. honest. brave. What is joy without grief? Music without silence? We were created for something more than half-hearted promises and mindless motions.Read More

What a gift. To be invited into a day of love and joy and intimacy. One that celebrates new beginnings and old traditions. And to be asked to capture it. To be trusted to retell the story. I am grateful to have this opportunity. Humbled by such a task.Read More
I often tell my seniors not to worry about the first 20-30 shots I take. I call them the 'warm up' shots. You need some time to get used to this whole camera-in-your-face thing.
That's what I told McKenna. But then five shots in I get this (see first photo). And I knew this session would be pure magic.Read More

You know when the light is golden and yummy and perfect and your subject is beautiful and comfortable and everything works together in perfect harmony to create the perfect photo? And then that happens for every single photo?
Maybe you do. Maybe you don't. Regardless, that's exactly what went down with Amelia.Read More

I swear, Lindsay and Stephen walked right out of a magazine. Their wedding was nothing short of stunning and it was a wonder to photograph. These are some of my favorite wedding photos yet, and I am so happy to share them with you!Read More
To whoever believes that photos are merely about receiving a few good looking shots of your mug, listen up. You're not entirely wrong - I do want to deliver photos that make you excited about you! Photographing a styled shoot has been on my to do list for a while now but it wasn't until early January that I decided to finally set one in motion. The idea of reaching out to other vendors and models and directing a shoot entirely on my own terrified me, but I didn't let it stop me. I was starving to create and eager to step outside of my comfort zone.Read More
2014 was a good year. I launched my new website, traveled to Florida and California and the North Shore, went to my first and last high school dance (PROM), graduated, fell in love (with Urban Bean - HAH FOOLED YA), photographed four weddings of my own, second shot two, met several wonderful people (Diana and Bethany and Kadi and Elyse), contributed to Leaking Hearts magazine's first issue, entered adulthood (aka EIGHTEEN), attended five killer concerts, worked at a local bakery (and got a head start on the freshman fifteen), started life at college, built new friendships and cultivated old ones, and got my nose pierced.Read More
Maddy & Victor's special day was truly beautiful. Their first kiss was followed moments later by a great, celebratory clap of thunder. It poured the entire way to the reception, but conveniently stopped as we arrived. And with a few minutes between dinner and sunset, we were able to sneak out and capture the post-storm sky in all of its glory. It was as if the heavens themselves were congratulating the newlyweds.Read More
I didn't know places like this existed in the Midwest until Brian and Christi came along. They got married atop a hill, overlooking Midwestern forests and plains, and it was beautiful - even with the torrential rain and winds. Congratulations Brian and Christi!Read More
I met the one and only Elyse today. A few weeks ago she messaged me on Instagram that she'd be visiting Minneapolis from Seattle for a few weeks and asked if I'd like to meet up with her. I was humbled that someone would even want to meet up with me - usually it's the other way around. :) It was an instant yes. And I'm so happy it worked out. We are kindred souls. Both with the appreciation for all things beautiful and well curated. Hoping to work our way into some career that integrates the arts and writing and people and freedom. I could've chatted all day long.Read More
